The Makeup Show New York City Recap

TMS New York
Another TMS New York has gone by. Every year it is my annual ritual to attend this prestigious event to learn, meet and shop for my MUA kit. And because I also blog about makeup and skincare, I am delighted to attend the Blogger Preview that takes place on a Saturday before the two-day event.
This year, TMS New York organized a Kevyn Aucoin gallery which was lovely. Kevyn Aucoin is a makeup artist icon and will always be admired by many around the world. His techniques and artistry are relevant, influential, and inspiring. Getting to see snippets of his career was a treat. “The Makeup Show Icon Gallery; Beauty and Soul” made its New York debut and featured never-before-seen-pieces from Kevyn Aucoin’s life work.

The Blogger Event on Saturday was a lot of fun. James Vincent introduced the audience to an even larger array of products and brands exclusive to TMS this year 2014. It was a packed house of familiar faces of blogger friends and a crowd that listened attentively to what James had to share with us, including having his parents in the audience and what exclusive workshops were happening.

One of the main sponsors and where I trained as a makeup artist back in Singapore, is MAKE UP FOR EVER and the brand debuted Aqua Matic in 10 shades. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics launched new shades of Stained Gloss, and Temptu, Ofra, Ardency Inn, Cattiva, Embryolisse, Yaby, NARS and many more brands each debuted new products exclusively this year at The Makeup Show NYC. For the first time, Sephora Pro came to TMS New York and it was a total surprise.

Day One of TMS
Sunday was my shopping day since on Tuesday I was scheduled to work at a vendor booth of the show. Most of my focus was on re-stocking my foundations, buying a Viseart palette, a Senna palette as well as some brushes, Beauty Blenders, Bdellium tool brushes, Smashbox shadows, and Makeup Forever Aqua Matic pencils. It was also an opportunity to see peers working various booths, catching up while trying to shop and making sure I had not forgotten what I needed. Some of the brands like NARS and Makeup Forever had the busiest lines. I admired Hakkuodo brushes from afar and checked out Wayne Goss’ makeup brush line [they are very expensive]. I also ended up getting a Cozette brush cup. After debating on whether or not I should get the Zuca backpack, I decided it was best not to this year, maybe next.

Day Two of TMS
An early start for me as I had to be at the show for 9 am to help sell at the Michael Marcus booth. Since I started doing freelance events for other beauty brands, I figured this opportunity would introduce me to a new brand, and hone my sales skills. I was able to test out Michael Marcus’ oil free primer which is in fact, the best selling product of the line. By the end of my shift, I headed out to do some last minute mingling with other brand reps and called it a day.

In all, I had a great show this year, I got lots of wonderful, new tools for my kit, saw friends and peers and made the most of the time I had to spend.
